Red Alert in La Mesa Dam

Due to typhoon Gener, the management of La Mesa Dam recommended evacuation of residents near Tullahan River as water level increased 56 centimeters from 79.59 meters to 80.15. Spillage of the dam was anticipated to affect portions of Quezon City, Valenzuela City, Navotas and Malabon. While public storm signals were lifted up today over portions of Luzon, Gener slowly approaches the country’s northernmost tip making Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) forecast that the typhoon will be out of the country by Wednesday when it is expected to be located 350 kilometers away from Batanes. PAG-ASA also continues to warn residents to stay away from coastal areas as big waves and storm surges crash through the shores and to avoid fishing boats and small vessels from venturing off due to the effects of Gener enhanced by the southwest monsoon. –Bren Abanador
