Emergency Response: Through JPN Member organizations working for Philippine people and children affected by COVID-19
Dear all,
Ongoing coronavirus crisis has affected many of us in the world, especially those who are socially marginalized such as street dwellers and children in the Philippines. The whole Luzon island and other parts of the country have been under lockdown for a month. Those who work and earn on streets have no income, because many people are now put on community quarantine (lockdown) and obliged to stay at home. As of today, April 7, 2020, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines reached 3,660.
Japan-Philippines NGO Network (JPN) has been working to promote mutual understanding and establish strong cooperative relationship between Philippine and Japanese people since 2006. To respond to the COVID-19 crisis, first, we did a quick survey of 16 member organizations and collected information about their response to their Philippine partners and beneficiaries. As a result, there are currently 3 member organizations that have started emergency assistance as of today and several more are preparing to join assistance activities in a week or so for people suffering from the COVID-19 crisis. We immediately uploaded information about their assistance activities on the JPN website and started to call for donations for them to help Philippine people suffering from the COVID-19 crisis.
