The Japanese government announced the name of the new era, which will set when Crown Prince Naruhito becomes the new Emperor on May 1.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga disclosed the era name and explained how it’s written in Kanji characters. It came from Manyoshu, the oldest existing anthology of Japanese poetry.

On April 30, Emperor Akihito is set to abdicate, which will be the end of Heisei era. The government announced the new era name so that the public can prepare.
