Philippine Embassy, Tokyo. For the very first time in Philippine trading history, the Philippines exported duck meat to Japan in commercial quantity last January 12, 2014. This is also the first time that the quality of Philippine duck meat passed the delicate taste of Japanese customers.

That was just the beginning. And there will certainly be more importations to come.

Thus, last Friday March 7, 2014, a Sales Agreement Contract was formally signed and entered into at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, Japan by and between MaharlikaAgro-Marine Ventures Corporation, the Davao-basedFilipino supplier and DaigoTsucho Co., Ltd.and AonoFresh Meats Ltd. as Japanese buyers/sole distributors. Both Japanese companies are located in Aoi-ku, in Shizuoka City.

The contracting parties are also considering possible exportation of whole ducks, premium breast meat, boneless leg meat, bone-in leg meat, wing, and fillet.

The export of duck meat to Japan opens up a lot of opportunities for Filipinos, especially in the Mindanao area and will certainly provide profitable livelihood for them. This will also further strengthen trading relationships between Japan and the Philippines, and bring about much closer friendly relations between the Japanese people and the Filipino people.

This duck meat export to Japan was initiated by Secretary Proceso J. Alcala of the Department of Agriculture to take advantage of the bird flu-free status of the Philippines.
