Lipstick 101

Many women love to wear Red lipstick because it is a color that can pops the shape of lips and enhance many look. Red lips are the quintessential sexy and classy look but getting it “just right” can take a little know-how.

Here are 5 steps to help you:

  • Step 1 Choose the right color

If your complexion is pink, you’ll look better in plum shades, while girls with yellow tones are flattered by warmer reds that have a brown base. However, it is important to try different shades of red to find the one that suits you best. Another thing you can do is ask a makeup retail assistant to help you make a suitable choice. Be sure to test under good lighting.

  • Step 2

Clean and dry your lips in preparation. Slightly moisturize your lips by adding a little lip balm. Before proceeding, wait for it to be absorbed. Red lipsticks are quite hard to apply when your lips are chopped. So be sure to have it moisturized.

  • Step 3

You can add a lip liner. It allows you to outline your lips to prevent lipstick from running and bleeding. Slightly line outside your lips if you want your lips to look bigger. You can use a nude color or something that is similar to the red shade of lipstick you are going to use. Avoid trembling your hand when you line your lips. If you made a mistake, don’t swipe it off with your finger. Use a makeup remover instead on a cotton bud for best results. If you don’t have a lip liner, pat concealer across your lips.

  • Step 4

After applying the liner, you can now apply the lipstick. Don’t forget the inner of your lips. As you smile, the color of your real lips might be a big contrast to the redness. It is best to apply using a lip brush and not the lipstick. The brush ensures that the lipstick is added precisely and it makes your lips redder, fuller and stays put.

  • Step 5

Once applied, lightly dab the lipstick using a tissue. A coat of translucent powder can do wonders too. Place your index finger in your mouth and move it around gently. It will lift excess red lipstick likely to smear on your teeth. Then, last but not the least, apply either a clear or red lip gloss. You can never put too little lip gloss. Avoid the edges because it might dribble over if it’s too much. Consider the remaining makeup. The red lipstick pops and should be your facial feature piece. The remaining makeup needs to be consistent with this and flawless skin is the look to aim for. The paler the skin, the bigger the pop. Go light on the eyes and the blush, otherwise you’ll risk looking like a clown.
