U.S.: Boost PH Defense

THE United States Senate passed a resolution calling for increased defense and security cooperation with the Philippines, including the “rotational presence” of American troops in the country. US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta also announced that the US will shift most of its naval resources to the Pacific region.  “This is a very positive development that further underscores the importance the United States places on its alliance with the Philippines, the Filipino people greatly appreciate this gesture by our friends in the United States Senate.” Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose L. Cuisia Jr. said.  The resolution also urged the Washington, aside from the defense and security cooperation, to support the modernization of the military in the Philippines and increase humanitarian and disaster relief preparedness activities. – (Manila Bulletin).
